The Silesian Museum was established in 1929 and, since its restitution in 1984, has amassed a collection of over 75 000 exhibits. The most valuable of these is the collection 233 artworks in the Gallery of Polish Art from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum's 6 sections: archeology, ethnography, history, research and education, art and amateur art, together with the museum's branch – the Centre of Polish Scenography, prepare up to 30 exhibitions annually. In total, during the last 20 years, over 500 expositions have been organised, of which 27 were award-winning exhibitions.
