Silesia lies in southern Poland with the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the South, the Opole region to the West, Łódź region to the North and the Małopolska and Świętokrzyskie regions to its East.

Our region has a strong cultural tradition, made up of 1349 cultural institutions belonging 185 local councils in the Silesian Region. Amongst the 18 artistic institutions run by the council of the Silesian Voivodeship are:

  • drama theatre – Silesian Theatre in Katowice
  • music theatre – The Chorzów Theatre
  • opera theatre – Silesian Opera in Bytom, organiser of Adam Didur Opera Singers’ International Competition
  • The Silesia Philharmonic in Katowice organisers of The Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors
  • World famous composers live in the region: Henryk Górecki, Wojciech Kilar.

Tourism
Silesia is one of the most interesting and most attractive regions in Poland, in terms of tourism.
It’s worth visiting a region of flawless nature, rich culture and diverse landscapes:

  • In Częstochowa, the Jasna Góra, Pauline monastery
  • The Silesian and Żywiec Beskid mountain range, together with the Polish Jurassic Highland are perfect for active people both in summer and winter,
  • The Castle in Pszczyna with its stunning grounds and park
  • The Regional Park of Culture and Recreation – the only park of its kind in this part of Europe
    600 ha including forested areas, a fun park, a zoo and a planetarium.
  • The Silesian Stadium in Chorzów – a place not only famous as a sporting arena, but also for its large-scale concert events.
  • „Industrial Monuments Route” – unique in terms of European cultural heritage including the Historic ‘Guido’ coal mine in Zabrze and the Gliwice Radio Station.
